It is often said that Freemasonry is a beautiful system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by signs and symbols.  We are also a benevolent society whose purpose it is to improve ourselves, the world, support the widow, the orphan as well as each other.  For that reason the world should always have Faith because of our example and Hope because of our Charity towards the widow, orphan and all mankind. 
We are not a political organization, yet we emphasize the necessity of civic participation by all citizens in their countries.  We are not religious, yet the principles and foundations of our art can be found in holy scriptures throughout the world, in the words of the wisest philosophers and from the mouths of the greatest teachers.
